Pringle of Scotland has announced a new partnership with the internationally renowned Central Saint Martins for a project entitled ‘The Pringle Archive 1815 – 2010′. The project aims to allow for both the completion of a comprehensive archive and development of future re-issues of iconic vintage styles and original manufacturing techniques.

We at Pringle are elated to have CSM take such an active role in developing our archives. Pringle has a rich and innovative past. Access to this can only serve to inform and inspire our future. Many, many thanks to Louise Wilson, Alistair O’Neill and all students involved – for their enthusiasm, scholarship and fresh ideas.” – Mary Adair Macaire – CEO.

The project takes part in two stages – firstly students from the BA Fashion History & Theory course will research and catalogue the existing company archive and also play host to an event called ‘Pringle Day of Record’ taking place in the heart of Scotland’s knitwear manufacturing town ‘Hawick’ on August 12th. Members of the public will be invited to bring their generations old Pringle of Scotland styles and memorabilia so that it can be recorded and important historical additions brought back into the company’s archives.

The MA Fashion & Design students, overseen by Louise Wilson, will concentrate on stage two – to design and create modern interpretations of the iconic archive pieces. A curated exhibition of the archive discoveries and reworked styles will be presented during London Fashion Week in February 2011.
