London Fashion Week may have flashed by but we managed to take some time out to meet one of the industry’s most influential make up artists at Kettners in Soho. As Global Artistic Director of Revlon, Gucci Westman not only dictates the trends backstage at Fashion Week each season, she also influences the products that we’ll be buying in years to come. We caught up with her fresh from creating the hazy purple eye and red-lipped look at this season’s Temperley show to get the inside track on what we can expect from make-up for AW11/12.
“For SS11, we really focused on blushed, flushed cheeks that recreated the healthy glow we get from being out in the fresh country air,” says Gucci. “Next season we’re seeing a more powerful vision of a woman that comes with a definite attitude. Full brows and a statement lip will be essential to adding strength and structure to the face.”

No coincidence is it that Revlon’s new double-ended Just Bitten Lipstain and Balm, £7.99 (0800 085 2716) will hit UK stores this month. With shades that include a poppy pink (Crave) and caramel brown (Forbidden), they take the lip inks we’ve seen in the past and add a practical spin with a shine-giving balm at the opposite end that hydrates lips and locks your look in place for longer.
“Just Bitten is a great product to kick your beauty regime into the new season,” says Gucci. “Pair it with a clean, minimal face for a cool, effortless vibe or add definition to the eyes to create something more intense.”
And with next season’s make up wardrobe off to a roaring start, we couldn’t help but wonder who Gucci’s dream collaboration would be with.
“Alber Elbaz at Lanvin is not only incredibly nice but I love how his idea of a woman translates into such beautiful clothes. Carey Mulligan is so cute – I’d love to do her make up too.”
