Vauxhall Fashion Scout announces the AW 2010 line-up for their first exhibition. Running over four days during London Fashion Week, the exhibition features 16 exciting designers including Dean Quinn (above), Lidjia & Dejan and new Korean talent Doii.
Askh

Ones To Watch
Askh is a collaboration between two Danish MA graduates, Anne Sofie Madsen and Katrine Hedegaard. Having wowed the Danish fashion press with their Nordic-couture collection, inspired by their love of art, storytelling and craftsmanship, the pair are making their AW 10 debut with a range of easy-to-wear pieces for men and women.
Beekay

Pakistan-born, Beekay, fuses eastern and western culture to create a tough, aggressive and rebellious aesthetic. A graduate of UCCA, Beekay worked with Aminaka Wilmont for three seasons, before debuting his own SS 10 collection last year. Mixing leather with lighter fabrics like denim and Lycra, Beekay combines a powerful, confident aesthetic with comfort and flexibility.

Braille

Benjamin Vorono and Samuel Kientsch launched menswear label, Braille, in 2009. Educated in Sociology and Graphic Design, this season sees the self-taught duo make their AW10 debut with the collection ‘A Gentle Wake’. Employing a smart, masculine silhouette, the collection uses wool, hemp and silk in aqua, rust and midnight shades to give an upbeat, modern look. Braille is accessible yet unique, designing garments with longevity that can easily incorporate into men’s wardrobes.

Chelsea Rebelle

Designed by New Zealander, Sarah Brannon, Chelsea Rebelle was launched in Los Angeles in 2005. Music and film serve as the designer’s main inspirations, as are the fashion icons Lolita, Debbie Harry and Patti Smith. The Chelsea Rebelle woman is free spirited, rebellious and lives by her own rules, and Brannon creates pieces that are modern, flirty and whimsical. Often combining unusual fabrics and cuts, Chelsea Rebelle pieces are beautiful, quirky and luxurious.

Charlotte Taylor

Lancashire-born Charlotte Taylor graduated from Central Saint Martin’s in 2008, and during her degree, assisted numerous designers including Marcus Constable and Frost French. Upon graduation Charlotte was snapped up by Luella, subsequently leaving in June 2009 to set up her own label. The collection focuses on sharp tailoring, bold silhouettes and sculptured shapes provide canvases for dashes of colour, textures and prints. Charlotte’s vision subtly emphasizes the female form, juxtaposing androgynous tones with effortless elegance.
Trashy grannies, penguins, old soap operas, movies and the eccentric within provide fuel for the fire in this bold yet elegant collection.

David Longshaw

Ones To Watch
British designer, David Longshaw, studied at Central St Martins and the Royal College of Art, before graduating in 2007. Post college, Longshaw received numerous awards nominations and high profile press coverage, and secured a design position at Alberta Ferretti, before his show at Graduate Fashion Week. Longshaw went on to work at Max Mara, before launching his own label. Both an award-winning illustrator as well as designer, Longshaw uses his whimsical, playful illustrations and story writing as a starting point for his texture-heavy, organically shaped pieces.

Dean Quinn (above)
Dean Quinn creates avant garde yet wearable clothes for the modern fashion-conscious woman. The Northern Irish designer is a fashion graduate from the Central Saint Martins BA course and winner of its prestigious Womenswear Designer of the Year Award for 2009. Previous collections have featured Blade Runner-inspired futuristic tailoring and nuances of a femme fatale.

Doii

After graduating from Central St. Martins in 2002, designer Doii Lee’s first job was with John Galliano, before being head hunted by Antonio Marras to work at Kenzo. In 2005, the Korean designer launched her own label, Doii Paris, which specialises in carefully hand crafted, custom made pieces that combine creative, inspiring and feminine shapes with striking fabrics and embellishments. Lee has successfully shown at Seoul and Paris Fashion Weeks, and will now debut her collection in London.
Doii Lee’s collections are stocked in numerous boutiques, including Isetan in Japan and also Bloomingdales in Dubai.

Eudon Choi
Ones To Watch
Eudon Choi, who was born and raised in Korea, first began his career in menswear before accepting a place on the Royal College of Art’s MA course. His graduate collection was quickly snapped up by Dover Street Market and Choi now counts celebrity fashionistas, Sienna Miller and Jade Jagger, as devoted fans of his label. Post graduation, Choi worked as senior designer at Twenty8Twelve under Savannah Miller, before debuting his own womenswear collection last season, whereby his drawing together of men’s tailoring with iconic, feminine lines received much critical acclaim.

Felicity Brown

London-born, Felicity Brown, has worked with Alberta Ferretti, Loewe, Mulberry and Lanvin since graduating from a masters at the Royal College of Art. Her graduate show was selected to be exhibited at Sotheby’s, and for AW10, her collection will be small but exquisite. Hand dyed dresses and heavily constructed silk pieces, embellished with pleating, folding and layering, will dominate the collection. Inspired by Japanese origami and old botanical drawings, the collection will be raw, feminine, and display Brown’s expert eye for detail.

Florencia Kozuch

Ones to Watch
Florencia Kozuch was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina but later moved to Barcelona with her family. Like many fashion stars before her, Kozuch headed to CSM to learn her craft. She graduated in 2009, and looked to her Argentinian roots as inspiration for her graduate collection. Combining traditional tribal features with an ultra modern, rock chick twist, the core elements of Kozuch’s style are scale, texture and structure. The result is an ultra modern, yet traditional, collection for strong, confident women.
Hermione de Paula

Merit Award Winner
Hermione de Paula has been announced as the winner of the Merit Award A/W 10/11
Print specialist and Central Saint Martin’s alumni, Hermione de Paula, first featured in Vauxhall Fashion Scout’s Ones to Watch show last season, which saw her delicate, hand painted and collage prints, coupled with intricate, trompe l’oeil designs, strut down the catwalk and into the pages of many a high profile publication. After working with Alexander McQueen, Galliano and Christian Dior, de Paula created her own luxury collection, packed with whimsical, printed silhouettes and a lingerie-inspired aesthetic, realised with sheer silks and detailed embellishments. De Paula’s signature look is soft, beautiful, and infinitely feminine.
S/S 10 collection will be stocked at Browns Focus in February.

Jacob Kimmie

South African born and British influenced, Jacob Kimmie is a self-taught designer who uses his experience of growing up in apartheid South Africa as the inspiration behind his design work. Since making his AW 07 London Fashion Week debut, Kimmie has become well known as a controversial figure, often filling his work with powerful contradictions and social narratives, yet all the while keeping his aesthetic beautiful, feminine and intricately crafted. Always in pursuit of absolute beauty and perfection, Kimmie’s collections are aspirational and innovative.

Lidija & Dejan
LCF alumni, Lidija, and CSM graduate, Dejan, first presented their collection last season, and were shortlisted as the finalists of the 2009 Fashion Fringe at Covent Garden award. Producing luxurious, sensual and timeless pieces, this season will see the pair produce a collection inspired by the work of Christo and Bauhaus, manipulating silk satins and jersey, and using clashing, contrasting colours.

Viking Wong

An LCF alumnus, Viking Wong, is a London-based womenswear designer. Despite only graduating last year, his designs have been exhibited in the V&A and made final place in the Avant Garde category of New York’s Gen Art awards.
Interested in travel and new cultures, Wong takes inspiration from historical photos, combining old elements with new, ultra conceptual ideas in his design work. Paying close attention to delicate embellishments and detailing, Wong plays with the silhouette through strong tailoring and a fluid, feminine style.
