Nilupul Hettaiarachchige is a BA (hons) Fashion Design graduate from The University of Northampton. Drawing inspiration from the texture and shape of the Japanese ‘Sakura’ flower, Nilupul creates a layered texture of hand-sewn garments with an organic aesthetic. Using layer-upon-layer of soft fabrics such as cotton organza, cotton jersey and paper silk allowed Nilupul to play with the designs, creating unique shapes such as voluminous shoulders and an over-size corsage. Nilupul worked on various projects whilst studying, including a design project for River Island and designing a trouser for singer Duffy, a group project for Schwarzkopf. With a passion for haute couture Nilupul would like to study couture-sewing techniques and would one-day like to work for the likes of Alexander McQueen, Ellie Saab or Jean Paul Gaultier.
