Were they painters, this collection would represent the moment Basso & Brooke enter into the museum premier league. Being the first designers to embrace digital print was not merely prophetic – it has allowed the duo five years (to date) in which to explore its myriad possibilities to the fullest. Now they work with the accomplished hand of the connoisseur, achieving a perfect harmony between gesture and placement, loud and quiet, statement and understatement. The cutting is razor sharp. The silhouette a sturdy in contrast: sharp and straight meets curvy and fluid – slender and elongated limbs evolving into mini-explosions of draped embellishment. For added panache, fluidity is captured mid-movement as if time suspended. Characteristically, new fabrics and techniques are explored – printed sequins and bespoke Jacquards employ cutting-edge technology to enhance the ‘wet look’ – alongside a joyous mix of silk jerseys, stretch nets, radzimir, double organzas, silk georgette, shantung, printed micro sequins, lurex Jacquards, and viscose gabardine.
